About Us…

My name is Joey. I’m 47 years old — a working dad, husband, and believer who, for years, let life take priority over my own health. Between raising five kids, working full-time, earning my bachelor’s degree, and trying to juggle it all, I found myself slowly slipping.

I had every excuse in the book.
“I don’t have time.”
“I’ll start next week.”
“I just need to rest tonight.”

The truth is, I was comfortable being uncomfortable. I told myself that taking care of everyone else mattered more than taking care of me.

But it caught up with me.

After injuries that required two hip replacement surgeries and years of poor eating habits, I found myself at 282 pounds. At 5’9”, I was overweight, exhausted, and embarrassed by what I saw in the mirror.

I wasn’t just physically out of shape — I was spiritually empty.

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?”
1 Corinthians 6:19 (NLT)

That verse hit me like a wake-up call. God had entrusted me with this body, this life, this family — and I wasn’t honoring Him with it.

So I made a decision.
No more excuses. No more waiting for the “perfect time.” I took back control of my health, my habits, and my heart.

I didn’t hire trainers. I didn’t join a fancy program. I didn’t pay for coaching.
I just did the research, created a plan, and committed to the process.

I cleaned up my eating, disciplined my mindset, and made fitness a priority.
And through faith, consistency, and perseverance, God transformed me from the inside out.

Today, I weigh 172 pounds — that’s 110 pounds lost — all on my own. But really, not alone. God was with me every step of the way.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

Why I Created The Average Joe

This community was born out of my own journey — out of a desire to help others experience the same breakthrough I did.

Because here’s the truth:
Getting in shape doesn’t start in the gym.
It starts with what you put in your mouth, what you feed your mind, and where you place your faith.

And here’s another truth most people won’t tell you:
Rome wasn’t built in a day.

All those influencers you see online hyping up “90-day transformations” — that’s not real life. It’s marketing.
The truth is, sustainable change takes time. It took me a full year to lose 110 pounds — and my body isn’t “perfect.”
I don’t have a six-pack. I don’t look like a fitness model.
But I’m healthy. I’m strong. I’m confident.

I learned to make better choices, not perfect ones.
To focus on progress, not perfection.
To enjoy the occasional hamburger or pizza — without guilt — because this isn’t about restriction, it’s about redemption.

That’s what The Average Joe is all about.

A one-stop community where you’ll find:

  • Workout routines that fit your schedule.

  • Meal plans that are simple and affordable.

  • Education on fasting and nutrition.

  • Encouragement from others walking the same journey.

  • Faith-based accountability and community through our private Facebook group.

This isn’t about being the best. It’s about being better than you were yesterday — one decision at a time.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT)

Our Mission

To help everyday believers grow stronger — in faith, family, and fitness.
To remind people that you don’t have to be perfect to start, you just have to be willing.

We’re not celebrities. We’re not influencers.
We’re just average people choosing to step out in faith and take back our lives — one day, one rep, one prayer at a time.

“Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
